Okay, well, I'm not leaving now. Not leaving until August 14th actually. But I am going. But just for a few days. A few days of quiet, beachy sanity, all by my lonesome. Much-needed sanity, actually.
I have NEVER gone away on a vacation by myself before. Not once. Ever.
Buh-bye. I am SO out of here. In a couple of weeks, that is. Brian, cleared the time off work to stay home with the kids while I'm gone, and I officially booked it today.
But I'll still have internet while I'm away.
Hee. Heehee... Heeheeeeemwahahaha!
Can you feel the blog fodder coming?
Current Mood: happy
I was tagged! Doesn't happen often, so I think I'll actually even do it:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag three people.
Oh crap, so the nearest book to me is 35,000+ Baby Names, by Bruce Lansky. Hrm:
Lelya (Russian) a form of Helen. Leka
Lena(Greek) a short form of Eleanor. (Hebrew) dwelling or lodging. (Latin) temptress. (Norwegian) illustrious. Music: Lena Horne, a well-known African-American Singer. Lenah, Lene, Lenea, Lenee, Lenette, Leni, Lenka, Lina, Linah
I'll tag LA Scene, Scott & Lindsay, and, of course, Brian. We'll see if any of them notice and answer. hehe.
It was also pointed out to me that my gallery wasn't working. Damnit. This time, however, I'd like to point out that it was NOT MY FAULT FOR ONCE! *does whooping dance of victory* I've got the Cleverdot people working on it and hopefully it will be resolved soon. They're usually pretty good about this stuff. Seems they had some problems recently and moved me (and whomever else is on my server) over to a brand-spankin' new server. I guess some settings didn't quite make it. At least that's my hope. I did back up the database not long ago though, so I'm hoping that even if it's all mucked up it won't be tough to fix. About time something went wrong where I DID back it up recently. heh.
Gotta go... baby's hungry again.
Current Mood: crazy
Well, I was planning to come in and post about the fact that I've uploaded more than 30 new pictures to the gallery, complete with captions. Except that it took me an extra long time to do it, as the server was having problems. And so was my web browser/e-mail program...
I recently upgraded to the newest version of Opera, since there was a new one to be had. Unfortunately, this time around I experienced more glitches than usual - for one, I wasn't receiving images that were sent to me via e-mail anymore. I could forward them back to myself, however, and the images were suddenly there. Weird, to say the least. After a few other glitches, I decided to downgrade, back to the previous version.
Big mistake. HUGE.
First I stupidly didn't uninstall the newer version of Opera before installing the older one over it. Thus, everything got confused and otherwise discombobulated. Half my buttons had gone wonky, for one.
Oops, says I, realizing what I did. So I run the uninstall program to remove those parts of Opera 9 and then re-install the older Opera again. Usually, this ought to work. But no. First I got an error message just trying to open Opera. Eventually I tried re-installing Opera 9, just to get back to a functioning browser - and all my stuff was GONE!
Oh crap. All my e-mail, contacts, notes, settings, etc... gone. Kaput. No more juju for me.
*sob*
So, after leaving my computer to make lunch and keep myself from throwing something at my poor, unsuspecting, innocent monitor, I returned and went at it from a different angle.
Nope. Doing a Windows System Restore didn't quite fix it either.
damn.
However, being the not-entirely-an-idiot person that I am, I managed to scrape some files out of the computer, install a fresh copy of the older version, and explain to it, in no uncertain terms, that it was to pull as much info out of it as possible.
So now I've not lost any contacts, I've reset all my settings from scratch, managed to recover all the notes I had in there, and have all but about a month's worth of e-mail.
So - if you e-mailed me anything in the last month - it's gone. Disappeared into whatever place that little bytes and ether-fragments end up when they are lost. Probably the same place that sock go when they escape the clothes washer. And that vinyl 45 with Pinball Wizard on it that I lost sooooo very long ago.
If you sent me files, I still have them. I save stuff to specific directories, never relying on the download folder in Opera to keep everything in one big jumble. I like knowing where to find stuff. But if it was in the text of the e-mail - it's gone.
*sigh of frustration*
But... there are the new gallery pictures. With captions even. Consider that a consolation prize?
Current Mood: discontent
This past weekend, for the third time since we initially moved into our house, we rearranged the family room. There are three viable corners in the room itself (the fourth having two doorways and a furnace intake in the way) and my desk has officially lived in all of them. I've returned the the space I had before the previous rearrange, although I have an entirely new desk (thanks to someone on Freecycle) that forms an "L" and has a riser in the corner for my monitor. The monitor seems so far awaaaaaay right now, but I'm getting used to it. Also, I hated the keyboard tray, but was hurting my wrist with the mouse being up higher than I'm used to. So, last night, Brian played Bob the Builder (Jareth's favorite show, by the way) for me and made the keyboard tray smaller and moved it over so that it is now officially a mouse tray instead. Very cool.
Now I just need to weed through all the piles of crap that have accumulated around me. Jareth has my old desk and an official space in the room finally, and Brian also got a new desk through the same freecycler that he's still in the process of setting up. Partly, we still have boxes in the way of where the desk is actually going to end up, so I'm hoping to get that resolved today.
Anyway, maybe more tomorrow. Possibly even the promised pictures, although that depends on if I have time to size them down for the web or not. I take the photos in the highest resolution my camera is capable of, which would not only take me a looooooong time to upload, it would also be a pain for you to load the pages. But picking the best ones, resizing them, and then loading them up onto the server takes a little time and I've been busy. I'll get to it soon, hopefully.
Later!
Current Mood: working
I've been informed that my blog was "broke" today. Nope, it's not broken, down, or otherwise afflicted with anything more than my own lack of time and two-handedness. Whenever I have two hands free (a general requirement I often have for typing) I usually manage to find something more pressing that requires the use of those two hands. Kayla's bedroom is now a lovely yellow color, for example, and the carpet is gone. I still need to finish pulling up the carpet tacks and the staples from the foam padding, as well as paint the trim and door white, but it's a huge start we managed to make on the weekend of the 4th. I have hefty plans for this weekend, to get further along.
I've also got web projects I'm working on for other people, as well as a logo cleanup for one of the moms' groups I'm involved with. I have this nasty habit, as I've mentioned before, of saying 'yes' to projects even when I already have my hands full. At least the most recent of the web projects I've added to my plate will pay in money. That's something I feel like I haven't seen much of in quite a while.
Then there's "camp", every Tuesday and Thursday morning where Jareth does crafts and gets to play in a park with other kids around his own age while I attempt to get to know their mommies. I also am trying to get him out to some of the events my other moms' groups are doing too, while scheduling in Kayla's checkups and immunization shots (which she had today again, so she's cranky as I try to type this around her snuggling body). Add on the usual grocery trips, laundry, dishes, diaper changes, meal preparation, and... well the list goes on and on. There's not a whole heck of a lot of time left for blogging these days. I'm afraid it may stay a little sketchy here for a while. I didn't start blogging until Jareth was around the six-month mark I think, so if Kayla follows the same pattern, I should get my hands back more often around then. I think that's the point she'll be content to sit and play in the playpen behind me for little bits at a time during the day. Then I'll have time to get MUCH more done. Or, at least, that's what I keep telling myself, in order to keep the sanity levels in check.
There should be a picture post coming soon though. I've certainly taken a bunch. I may just do another batch upload and link to the gallery again. But not now. My upper arms are screaming at me from trying to hold a wiggling Kayla while I type this, so I think I'd better knock off and get back to my mommy duties instead.
More another time!
